This isn't generic AI feedback. Dan has spent 300+ hours developing the marking criteria, prompt architecture, and scoring rubrics that power this tool - drawing directly from his experience coaching students through GAMSAT Section II and calibrating feedback to an ACER-style Section II marking philosophy.

Every essay is assessed using Dan's GAMSAT-specific rubric, the same criteria he uses in paid 1:1 sessions. The AI is specifically calibrated to penalise the exact mistakes Dan sees students make - shallow theme engagement, generic framework responses, weak thesis statements, underdeveloped evidence, and surface-level reflections that would score below Band 60.

Dan is sceptical of AI feedback. Most AI marking tools give vague, encouraging responses that don't actually move your band score. This one was built with the opposite philosophy: honest, specific, sometimes uncomfortable feedback - because that's what separates a Band 55 from a Band 70.

Try it yourself - paste the same essay into ChatGPT and compare. You'll see the difference immediately.

About GAMSAT Section II - Task A & Task B Essay Writing

GAMSAT Section II (Writing) requires candidates to write two essays - Task A and Task B - in 60 minutes. It accounts for one quarter of your overall GAMSAT score and is consistently the most underestimated section by Australian medical school applicants.

Each task presents five stimulus comments grouped around a central theme. Candidates must identify the theme, select one or more comments to respond to, and produce a coherent, insightful piece of writing. You are not judged on the views you hold, but on the quality of your thinking and expression.

    Task A - Expository/Argumentative

Typically socio-cultural in nature. Requires a clear thesis, logical argument, and evidence. Think: structured, persuasive essay with an analytical edge.

    Task B - Reflective/Discursive

Personal and social themes. Can be narrative, reflective, or discursive. More latitude for voice and creativity - but still requires thematic depth.

How to use this GAMSAT Section II practice tool

Select Task A or Task B, then choose a stimulus from the dropdown or hit Random. Start the 30-minute timer when you're ready to write - this mirrors actual exam conditions. Aim for approximately 600 words (two pages of handwritten A4). When finished, use the AI feedback feature to get an examiner-lens analysis, band score estimate, and Band 70 thematic hints.

For genuine improvement, submit your essay to Dan for expert human marking. Unlike AI, Dan gives specific, personalised feedback designed to improve your writing.

What examiners look for in GAMSAT Section II

This marker uses five equal criteria: thought and content, organisation and expression, engagement with the theme, use of evidence and illustration, and language and style. Theme engagement is treated as the gatekeeper: a fluent rehearsed essay that does not genuinely answer the quote set should not score highly.

High-scoring essays don't just summarise the stimulus quotes - they use them as a launching point for original, nuanced thinking. A Band 70+ response will often take an unexpected angle that still remains faithful to the theme, demonstrating independent thought rather than rote application of a framework.
