How Flinders selects for medicine

Flinders offers a graduate-entry Doctor of Medicine with a strong rural and remote focus. Selection combines your GPA, the GAMSAT, and a multiple mini interview (MMI) for shortlisted applicants.

Dan’s general interview preparation advice

Flinders has a long history in rural, remote and Indigenous health, and in our coaching experience its MMI rewards candidates who reflect that authentically:

  • Genuine rural and remote interest - real, specific motivation rather than a rehearsed line.
  • Cultural awareness and respect when a station calls for it, without lecturing.
  • Warm, clear communication and visible empathy in role-play stations.
  • Balanced, honest reasoning.

Common mistakes we see

  • A metro-only outlook when the program is clearly rural and remote.
  • Generic answers with no specific connection to people or place.
  • Talking over the other person in a role-play.
  • Sounding rehearsed rather than genuine.

About the Flinders MD program

Flinders' Doctor of Medicine is a graduate-entry program of around four years, based in Adelaide with extensive rural and remote placements, including in the Northern Territory (Darwin). Teaching is integrated and case-based with early and immersive clinical exposure. Confirm the current structure with Flinders.

Fees (approximate)

Most domestic students study in a Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP) and pay the government-set annual student contribution for medicine - roughly AUD 10,000-11,000 per year as a 2025 guide, subject to change. Full-fee domestic and international places cost substantially more. For orientation only; confirm current fees with Flinders.

Research opportunities

Flinders offers research and honours-style options alongside the MD, with strengths in rural, remote and Indigenous health research. Confirm current options with Flinders.
