How UOW selects for medicine

The University of Wollongong offers a graduate-entry Doctor of Medicine with a well-known rural and regional emphasis. Selection combines your GPA, the GAMSAT, and a multiple mini interview (MMI) for shortlisted applicants.

UOW trains a lot of doctors for regional and rural communities, and in our coaching experience its MMI rewards candidates who genuinely fit that mission:

  • Authentic regional and community commitment - real reasons, not a rehearsed "I love the country" line.
  • Warm, plain communication that a patient would trust.
  • Empathy you can hear in role-play stations.
  • Honest self-awareness about your strengths and limits.

Common mistakes we see

  • A metro-only outlook when the program is clearly regional.
  • Claiming rural interest with nothing specific behind it.
  • Talking over the other person in a role-play instead of listening.
  • Generic answers that show no real connection to people.

About the UOW Medicine program

UOW's Doctor of Medicine is a graduate-entry program of around four years, based in Wollongong with a strong model of longitudinal, community-based clinical placements across regional and rural NSW. Teaching emphasises real, continuous patient contact. Confirm the current structure with UOW.

Fees (approximate)

Most domestic students study in a Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP) and pay the government-set annual student contribution for medicine - roughly AUD 10,000-11,000 per year as a 2025 guide, subject to change. Full-fee domestic and international places cost substantially more. For orientation only; confirm current fees with UOW.
