How Adelaide selects for medicine

The University of Adelaide offers an undergraduate-entry medicine program in South Australia. Selection combines secondary academic results (ATAR), the UCAT, and a multiple mini interview (MMI) for shortlisted applicants.

  • Clear, warm communication - you explain your thinking simply and sound like someone a patient would trust.
  • Genuine empathy - you notice how the other person feels and respond, especially in role-play stations.
  • Awareness of context - sensible recognition of rural, remote and Indigenous health realities when a station calls for it, without lecturing.
  • Balanced judgement - weighing more than one side before acting.

Common mistakes we see

  • Answering the topic but ignoring the person in front of you.
  • Generic, interchangeable answers.
  • Reaching for jargon instead of clear, human explanation.
  • Defending a first answer rather than thinking aloud when challenged.

About the Adelaide Medicine program

Adelaide's undergraduate-entry program runs around six years, leading to the Doctor of Medicine, based in Adelaide with clinical placements across South Australia including rural sites. Teaching uses case-based learning with early clinical exposure. Confirm the current structure with Adelaide.

Fees (approximate)

Most domestic students study in a Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP) and pay the government-set annual student contribution for medicine - roughly AUD 10,000-11,000 per year as a 2025 guide, subject to change.
