How ANU selects for medicine

ANU offers a graduate-entry medicine program in Canberra. Selection combines your GPA, the GAMSAT, and a multiple mini interview (MMI) for shortlisted applicants.

  • Reasoned argument under challenge - you hold your line where it is sound and adjust gracefully where it is not.
  • Awareness of population and rural health when a station invites it, without lecturing.
  • Genuine, considered motivation for medicine as a graduate.
  • Composure and clarity under time pressure.

Common mistakes we see

  • Ignoring the wider population or equity context a station is hinting at.
  • Generic answers that could apply to any applicant.
  • Defending a first answer instead of thinking aloud when pushed.
  • Sounding rehearsed rather than genuine.

About the ANU Medicine program

ANU's graduate-entry program runs around four years, leading to a Doctor of Medicine and Surgery, based in Canberra with placements across the ACT and surrounding rural and regional areas. As a research-intensive university, the curriculum carries a strong academic and population-health emphasis. Confirm the current structure with ANU.

Fees (approximate)

Most domestic students study in a Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP) and pay the government-set annual student contribution for medicine - roughly AUD 10,000-11,000 per year as a 2025 guide, subject to change. Full-fee domestic and international places cost substantially more. For orientation only; confirm current fees with ANU.
