Pathway: Domestic MBBS, standard school-leaver pathway. Format: MMI.
Pathway and format source: official university guidance, accessed . Check your invitation for individual arrangements.
Prepare for the interview as a separate task from UCAT ANZ and Casper. A good practice answer makes your reasoning understandable to someone who has just met you.
A practice exercise
Use a real group-project disagreement. Explain what each person needed, what you actually said and one change you would make now. Then try a different scenario so you practise a skill rather than memorise a speech.
Keep in mind: Do not assume a strong test score settles the interview, or present Casper practice as a replica of the MMI.
These are independent practice suggestions, not questions from the university or its marking criteria. You can use experiences from school, work, sport or caring responsibilities; do not invent clinical experience.

Published selection and interview guidance
Curtin ranks eligible applicants using academic performance, UCAT ANZ and Casper before inviting the highest-ranked applicants to an MMI. The academic measure differs for school leavers, graduates and Curtin course switchers. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants have a separate pathway and are exempt from UCAT ANZ and Casper.

Dan’s general interview preparation advice
The following is independent coaching advice. Adapt it to the published format above: clear reasoning, careful listening and specific reflection are useful across interview formats. These points are not the university’s assessment rubric.
- A genuine team-minded attitude - you respect other roles and work with people, not above them.
- Clear, caring communication - simple, human explanation over jargon.
- Awareness of rural and underserved health when a station invites it, without lecturing.
- Empathy shown in action, especially in role-play stations.
Common mistakes we see
- Individualistic answers that ignore the team or community.
- Reaching for jargon instead of clear explanation.
- Talking about empathy instead of showing it to the character.
- Sounding rehearsed rather than genuine.
