How UWA selects for medicine

UWA offers a graduate-entry Doctor of Medicine in Perth. Selection combines your GPA, the GAMSAT, and a multiple mini interview (MMI) for shortlisted applicants. UWA also runs a school-leaver assured/direct pathway (with ATAR and the UCAT), so check which pathway applies to you.

  • Sound reasoning under challenge - you adjust thoughtfully rather than freezing.
  • Professional judgement - sensible handling of safety, confidentiality and competing interests.
  • Awareness of rural and remote WA health when a station invites it.
  • Clear, human communication and genuine engagement in role-play stations.

Common mistakes we see

  • Generic answers that could fit any applicant.
  • Reaching for jargon instead of clear explanation.
  • Defending a first answer instead of thinking aloud when challenged.
  • Sounding rehearsed rather than genuine.

About the UWA MD program

UWA's Doctor of Medicine is a graduate-entry program of around four years, based in Perth with placements across WA including rural and remote sites. As a Group of Eight university, the curriculum is integrated and case-based with strong academic grounding. Confirm the current structure and pathways with UWA.

Fees (approximate)

Most domestic students study in a Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP) and pay the government-set annual student contribution for medicine - roughly AUD 10,000-11,000 per year as a 2025 guide, subject to change. Full-fee domestic and international places cost substantially more. For orientation only; confirm current fees with UWA.
