How Western Sydney selects for medicine
Western Sydney University offers an undergraduate-entry medicine program in Greater Western Sydney. Selection combines secondary academic results (ATAR), the UCAT, and an interview for shortlisted applicants, with eligibility criteria reflecting the university's regional and community focus.
Dan’s general interview preparation advice
WSU's program is strongly community- and equity-minded, and in our coaching experience its interview rewards candidates who reflect that authentically:
- Genuine community-mindedness - real awareness of social and rural health needs, not slogans.
- Empathy you can hear - responding to how people feel, especially in role-play stations.
- Clear communication - explaining your thinking simply and warmly.
- Balanced judgement - weighing more than one perspective before acting.
Common mistakes we see
- Ignoring the equity or community angle when a station clearly invites it.
- Generic answers that show no connection to the people involved.
- Talking over the other person in a role-play instead of listening.
- Sounding rehearsed rather than genuine.
